United Transitional Care Center at WVU Medicine United Hospital Center Receives CMS Five Star Rating

United Transitional Care Center (UTCC), a department of WVU Medicine United Hospital Center (UHC), once again earns a five-star overall quality classification among nursing home providers, continuing UTCC’s consecutive Five Star Quality Rating since 2018 from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

“UHC’s commitment to quality, at every level, has helped UTCC to achieve the CMS five-star rating,” said Stephanie Smart, MSN, RN, vice president of Nursing, CNO at UHC. “Our outcome quality measures meet or exceed the highest standards in every aspect of the care provision.”

CMS created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and to help identify areas about which you may want to ask questions. The Nursing Home Care Compare web site features a quality rating system that gives each nursing home a rating of between 1 and 5 stars.

Nursing homes with 5 stars are considered to have much above average quality and nursing homes with 1 star are considered to have quality much below average. There is one Overall 5-star rating for each nursing home, and separate ratings for health inspections, staffing and quality measures.

“Every one of our staff has worked very hard, including the departments within the hospital that have supported us during the survey period,” said Carol Weber, RN, BSN, nurse manager of UTCC at UHC. “UHC takes great pride in its work, as we celebrate our five-star designation.”
