Healthy Weight, Part VII

Jan 03, 2025

I am Dr. Mollie Cecil with UHC Medical Weight Management, and I am here today to provide you with ideas and tips concerning your healthy weight.

1). Is it reasonable to think that on my weight loss journey that I will hit a plateau?

Weight loss does not have a constant rate. As your body is constantly changing and adjusting (with the mechanisms discussed above), you will hit weight “plateaus” at times. This is when you eat and exercise the same but have stopped losing weight.

2). Why does a plateau happen?

This can be frustrating! However, it is important to remember that you have still accomplished something. Any big change in life is tough, and keeping up with it enough to see weight loss is great. You are doing great! Second, it is important to remember

that even if you are not losing weight, you are also not gaining more weight. Third, remember that this is your body’s natural response to weight loss. Plateaus are expected in your weight loss journey. They do not mean you have stopped trying, that you cannot lose any more weight, or that something is wrong with you.

3). When it comes to nutrition, education, and exercise, what advise do you want your patients to always remember?

Weight loss is one of the most challenging health interventions. It is a huge step that you are taking to focus on this and to work on your health. Your weight management team is with you every step of the way, and we are excited to see what we can accomplish together!
